The door opens into a barren, wind-stripped shelf of ice that stretches to the foot of black mountains on every side but the south, where it drops off as a sheer cliff. There probably isn't a living thing around for miles. Underfoot is a thin, sickly layer of powder snow that the wind whips up and around like shrapnel. The sky is overcast, and even though it's day time the sun barely skims above the horizon. It is bitterly cold. For some cultures this would closely resemble hell.
