[She's at the very end of her frayed rope. It's obvious in her voice. Rogue is at her breaking point.]

Someone get me drunk and gimme a place ta pass out. Ah can't stay in mah own room right now, and Ah can't deal with [This Alpha bullshit. The loud voices in her head. Anything to do with that breach.] any more of this.

[Garden Spam, over the next few days]

[Once she's had her initial meltdown, she has to pull herself together. Which meant a lot of internal work. So she's sitting in the gardens for hours, every day, for the next few days, meditating.]

[She knows when Charles shows up, but doesn't move. Her eyes stay closed for a while.

Then she can't help herself. Eyes still shut, meditative pose still held, she speaks up.]

Ah know what you're doing, Charles. And Ah appreciate it.

Well, someone has to take care of it, now that Ivy's gone. [He knows she's not talking about the garden, but it's easier to be cheerful and teasing about that than the alternative.] But you're welcome.

[That gets a smile out of her.]

Doin' a bang up job, sugah. [She's quiet for a moment, and then she opens her eyes to look at him.] So, how's the noise level? Am Ah leakin' at all?

[The crowd in her head was still disorganized, but she'd been sorting through them, putting back up the structures in her mind so they'd stay out of her stray thoughts. She had gained an echo personality -a strong copy of someone's mind that she could actually see as projection from her brain-, but if he was only listening to the surface, she didn't think Charles would pick up on it.]

[He considers for a moment before shaking his head.]

Not that I can tell. Admittedly, I try not to listen in at all to most people on the Barge without their permission - most people are fairly distrusting of telepaths and I'm not interested in giving them a reason to cause a scene - but I can usually pick up on anything particularly loud.

[And, because he's curious:] How are things working out?

[Well that was a good report. It meant she was making progress.]

It's slow goin'. But Ah know how ta fix it. It's just gonna take me awhile.

[And if the echo didn't fade in a few days, she was going to need to ask for help with it. She only hesitated because this Charles was still learning. Admittedly, it might be great practice for him, but she had to try on her own first.]

The offer to help still stands, if you feel like you want a hand. [He's done a lot of similar work for people here already, but he won't push her on it. That's not how he operated.]

Ah haven't forgotten.[And now for a redirect of the topic.] So what 'bout you, darlin'? How ya holdin' up?

[Charles shrugs good naturedly.] I can't really complain. Although now that Zane's graduated, I suppose I have more free time on my hands than I'm used to.

And you're still stickin' around? [She's really not that surprised. There were a lot of people he was connected to here still. People who couldn't leave whenever they wanted. But still, she was curious. She had a lot to learn about this Charles.]

I don't have any serious plans to leave until Erik's graduated, and even then, I have a few people I'd like to see off before I left for good. [But good lord, he is not planning on being here indefinitely. This place isn't a home, and it's not a vacation destination. Thinking otherwise is dangerous and frankly, kind of stupid, and as much as he cares about the people here, he knows he would completely lose his mind if he stayed here forever.]

It's nice ta see how close you two are. [It brings a little smile to her face. It really is heart warming to see Charles and Erik enjoying their friendship at least somewhere in the multiverse.]

I've been told we're sort of unusual, in that regard. [Even though things had been pretty strained between them when they'd first arrived here. Still, he's spoken to the Charles Xavier from Jean's world, and the differences are pretty startling. It's just strange, to think that they'd met under such different circumstances.]

Ah'd call it lucky. It does mah heart good ta see that, somewhere at least, ya'll get to be real friends, without the lines in the sand.

Well, they were there when we first got here. [In so many ways, even though he'd tried from the get go to convince Erik that they were still friends, that they would accomplish more together than they would apart.

He's not sure if he should be grateful or not for their trip to the Vanquish's world, because even if he'd been tortured and almost died, at least it had provided a bridge to start mending their friendship.]

I'd hate to say that anyone deserves to come here, or should, but maybe they'd benefit from being really forced to reexamine their differences in such a confined space.

Like gettin' shoved into a locked closet with yer problems. [She nods. Sometimes, that's the best way to deal with issues; getting stuck with them in your face.]

Ah don't know if it'd have worked for them back home. Our Eriks are similar but he's [She makes a small gesture to mean the one that is on the Barge.] so much more... well, grounded.

He wasn't always like that. He's changed a lot, in the time we've been here. [He never would have called Erik grounded, when they first met. He wouldn't have said that about him after Cuba, either.]

We both have.
